Thankfulness

by Adam Muema

As we just finish up celebrating the holiday to give thanks, we all here have something that should be our priority every day. To thank God! An unfortunate shortcoming many women of this world tend to have. Is it not odd that after Americans celebrate thanksgiving we see many fighting and trampling over each other as if what they celebrated was only for the food.  In the bible we are warned of these times…

2 Timothy 3:2 1But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, UNGRATEFUL, unholy, 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, 4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!

Does that even demonstrate the love for God and each other? Going at it the day after for a perceived discount. Is it too hard to fulfill His 2 simple request? It is hard to please God when we do not study His words, follow His son, listen to his saints, nor resist Satan,

2 Corinthians 4:4Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Lord RayEl does not mind that we celebrate Thanksgiving but we shall always remember to WHOM to give thanks to and the reason. 2000 years ago God gave us His Son; Christ our Lord, had to bear the weight of the world for our sins. Gee, I would hope you’d have something to be thankful for. Do some of us even consider how guided and protected we’ve been in this life time? I can sit up here telling testimony after testimony just to display how great our God is. We all have something to be thankful for. To name off a few some of us have life, can see, can run, walk, talk, have food on the table, and a roof over our head. A promise God said he would do for His faithful. My dad told me growing up his rent was free.

Listen to this…Matthew 6:25 25Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?… Of course you are

There are actually hundreds of verse expressing thankfulness as well…

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Yeshua for you.

I actually appreciate this verse more than I realize. In all circumstances. There is nothing that quite strengthens us like adversity. Bring out the character of men. You never know how you would behave or treat others during tough times. When tried with hard times are we able to praise him through hard times?

Ephesians 5:20

Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Yeshua Christ,

Psalm 106:1

Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Colossians 4:2

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Jonah 2:9

But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!”

In short GIVE THANKS!

You know a while back I was taking a survey; a multiple answer questionnaire and it asked what made a friendship last forever?… Though saying thank you was on the list, it was not the answer. It was actually reciprocation. Absolutely! To give back in return. The 3 wise kings being our first example. And there are many more examples throughout the bible. Which rises the question… We all have an idea of what our Lord has sacrificed and offers for us and those in their right mind know they cannot reciprocate that. So the question is what will you give back to the Lord?
