Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held secret talks in Saudi Arabia on Sunday with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Israeli media reported on Monday. The trip would be the first of its kind by an Israeli premier to the Gulf State.
An adult man was declared dead at the scene, and an adult woman died after being taken to a hospital. Three other adult men were taken to hospitals and were in serious but stable condition, police said Monday.
Hospital beds on Monday across the US were filled with around 59,000 COVID-19 patients, a new record for the number of inpatients being treated for the disease, according to the latest tally by Reuters.
The U.S. bishops’ conference has compressed its November meeting, which is usually a four-day affair, into two afternoon sessions, scheduled to take place Nov. 16 and 17. Because they cancelled their June meeting, the November virtual sessions will be the first time the bishops have met since last year, and the agenda for the meeting will be packed.
“I was told — and you know, when you’re a bishop you do what you told — ‘kneel here at the threshold of the cathedral and pray before you enter.’ And that struck me very forcefully, that the threshold is a very important place,” he recalled.
“And for people coming to church, or people approaching the church, crossing the threshold was a huge, sensitive, and sometimes very difficult action. We trip in and out because we’re too familiar with it all. But for somebody who has been away a long time or somebody who’s exploring faith, crossing the threshold is a huge step.”
