The Long Term Solution to Happiness

by Joseph Monte

In continuing from our lesson on addiction and what fuels addiction, we will now address the problem with a solution. The problem of addiction to food, drugs, alcohol, or other vices, stems from pain. When doctors encounter a patient that is in pain, they generally prescribe an opiate of some kind (a common practice especially in Western countries). Opiates serve as a primary example on how temporary fixes can temporarily mask pain because of how they act upon dopamine receptors in the brain. Opiates flood the brain with Dopamine, your “feel good” chemical, and gives a person a sense of “feel good” during a hard time of struggle. Food and drugs offer that temporary comfort as well, and often times, people fall into the trap of relying on vices to support them because they refuse to make choices that sustain them and bring them a life of real happiness and abundance.

Today, many people are suffering. Many people are in pain. Conveniently, we also have many access points to various ways to cope with that pain. The reason for the pain comes from many sources. As Lord RayEl recently stated in the ICOLR:

“Pain is often a choice… Suffering is often the desired path… People say that they want peace and joy, but when they see the forked road ahead of them; the rocky path that causes anguish alongside the paved road to bliss, too often they choose poorly.

Millions, perhaps billions of people have taken drugs, became addicted to alcohol or nicotine, joined gangs, coupled with a notoriously toxic person, or did something else that destroyed their lives, yet each day, seemingly countless numbers of people begin going down that same path of self-destruction with their eyes wide open, knowingly and willingly choosing the road littered with the bodies of very stupid people.

And stupid is the only word that fits, because my Father is not the God of the dead, but instead, He is the God of the living, just as scripture proclaims, so why would He favor those who choose the unmistakable path to ruin, but when for a simple, logical, and usually obvious choice, almost anyone can decide to avoid Satan’s well-marked traps?”

You must know who is bombarding your pleasure senses with distractions, and why, but Satan’s job is to keep you from being a worthy and polished soul. The bottom line is, people make bad choices and they are left unfulfilled with their lives. Why must we make such a choice? It is because they lose sight of what God has placed in their hearts and what God has guided them to do, and they end up dead inside. As a result, our world is dead inside, because too many people choose this path.

The scripture tell us how we can find happiness.

Proverbs 15:13
A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.

Ecclesiastes 7:14
In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him. (Speaking of polarities. Sorrow is placed in our lives to show us what joy truly means.)

James 5:13
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

The Parable of Matthew 25:14-30 – Those who are thankful for their blessings and use them wisely live in abundance, but those who are afraid of losing those gifts and are unwise with them will surely lose them.

Psalm 68:3
But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy!

Today’s message does not only harp on the problems of the world, but offers real and lasting solutions so that others can see the light. This is the intention of our work. This is our way of expressing love. To Love God and to love each other.

Proverbs 14:21
He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who shows kindness to the poor.

Hate is not a source of happiness, but love is, so live in love of your neighbor and be blessed. And to love God is to follow in His ways, so today, I call upon you to search within your heart what God has in store for you, and live by those actions and deeds.
